The YEMA Superman 500 GMT YGMT22A 500m diver’s watch is a pretty cool ticker. This is the first YEMA I’ve had in my hand. Admittedly, the name Superman put me off a bit at first – after all, who wants to wear a “Superman” on their wrist? Especially when it’s also written on the dial?

In the meantime, however, I think it’s really really cool. Because the YEMA Superman watches are diving watches with history. The most important design feature of this watch series, the bezel lock, was patented back in 1967. Since then, things have only gone uphill and the watch is still one of the best-known diving watches in the whole of France.

So it’s time for us Germans to take a closer look at this watch brand. YEMA is an independent, family-run watch manufacturer that has been in existence since 1948. As an official partner of the French Air Force and the French Navy, YEMA designs professional tool watches for the military, astronauts, athletes and explorers. The exciting YEMA story is really great. Even Seiko and Richard Mile had a hand in it.
The YEMA Superman 500 GMT YGMT22A 500m diver’s watch shown today is a beautiful retro diver’s watch that should be of particular interest to frequent travelers, as it has a GMT bezel that can be turned in both directions. The black dial in combination with the black and white bezel (by the way, the white is luminescent) make the watch a discreet eye-catcher.
Speaking of eye-catchers: the watch is available in 39mm & 41mm. The watch shown here is the 41mm version with the Skales metal bracelet. For me, this is the perfect choice for this GMT watch alongside the rubber straps, which are available in sizes M & L. You can see how the individual straps differ in price directly in my store. The price does not change for the sizes.
It is interesting to note that the YEMA Superman 500 GMT YGMT22A actually measures 42mm, as the bezel protrudes slightly from the case, making it easier to grip. This makes the watch appear even larger. In addition, the horns are not really much curved, so that it lies almost flat on the wrist. This makes it interesting for larger wrists. I usually wear 42mm and above, so I would clearly opt for the 39mm version here, precisely because of the flat support on the wrist.
The YEMA Superman watches are available in a wide variety of colors and designs. As a classic diver’s watch, GMT, … and as Pepsi, Batman, white, black, blue, … everyone should find a suitable watch & bezel here. Especially the two new YEMA Superman Bronze models with black & blue dial look really cool.
The YEMA3000 manufacture caliber performs well. The watchmakers set the watches ex works to +/- 10 seconds per day. Rate deviations of up to +/- 25 seconds per day are said to be possible, but I have never heard of or experienced this. Because I think 25 seconds is quite a lot. But if the guys set the watch to a maximum of 10 seconds, then everything is OK.
But ultimately it is the timeless, retro-charming design of this watch and series. The locking mechanism makes the watch a real eye-catcher, regardless of the color or version. I’m still not quite sure which version I’ll choose, but I think it will be the blue bronze… And yours?
