The time has come. The Swiss watch manufacturer TITONI is sending its latest highlight into the race to set new accents in the competition of the best premium divers on the market and, ideally, to take the lead again.
That’s where they see themselves anyway, and I also included TITONI’s flagship Seascoper 600 diving watch in my list of the 18 best diving watches of 2022 and 2023 just over a year ago. Now it’s time to stand out from the competition – because they never sleep. This is to be achieved with a new – or rather – old design, which should also visually raise the Seascoper to the level that it has technically achieved.
Retro has never been more modern
The name says it all, which is why TITONI has simply named its new gem with the reference number 83600 S-BO-255 “Retro”. Important: the Retro only stands out from its sister models due to the color combination of its dial. If you don’t like the dark blue dial with the old radium-style indices, you can take a look around the TITONI store. The traditional brand has diversified its professional diver series. Other dial colors, designs and even case materials can be ordered as an alternative. At this point, I would like to recommend the watch review for the TITONI Seascoper 600 with carbon case.
So everything remains the same, right? No, that’s not true. I’m looking forward to this exclusive sneak peek. Firstly because of the chic new color, and secondly because of the stainless steel case, which I’ve never worn with the TITONI Seascoper 600 before. The first impression: the dial
As we all know, the best comes last. However, I can’t help myself – so let’s now turn our attention to the new color of the dial. It now comes in a very dark, rich shade of blue, which can sometimes appear black depending on the light, but in my opinion gives the watch a fresher overall look. Somehow there is more dynamism here. It is well known that TITONI can create beautiful dark blue dials. However, it is the indices on the dial and bezel that give the Swiss watch its twist, with their “old radium” look. In daylight, the numerals and hands appear slightly yellowish/beige. This makes them strongly reminiscent of the indices on old diving watches. The origin of the name “Retro” should therefore be clear.
Anyone ordering a Seascoper 600 from TITONI is usually spoiled for choice and has to decide between dot indices or alternating Arabic and dot indices. The TITONI Seascoper 600 83600 S-BO-255 Retro has the latter option. Swiss Super-Luminova is used and gives the indices a green glow in the dark, which enables optimum reading of the dial even in poor visibility conditions.
The design of the dial ensures optimum functionality anyway. ‘Minimalism’ is the keyword. Only the Arabic minutes on the bezel are a little more playful.
The TITONI Seascoper 600 83600 S-BO-255 Retro on the wrist
If you really want to wear the Seascoper 600 on demanding dives, you can rest assured that the design will not let you down. Everyone else will have a beautiful watch on their wrist, which, despite its “retro” suffix, is quite timeless. The TITONO Seascoper 600 Retro is sporty, high-quality and classic. Clearly identifiable as a diver’s watch, it has enough independence to set itself apart from the well-known Submariner clones – well done!
With a diameter of 42 millimeters, the TITONI Seascoper 600 83600 S-BO-255 Retro is a universally wearable size. I find the dimensions between the lugs interesting, which you should definitely find out before buying a watch. This is just over 52 millimetres, similar to the Seascoper 300.
The TITONI Seascoper 600 Retro is worn on a three-link stainless steel bracelet. The clasp has a fine adjustment.
Details of the TITONI Seascoper 600 Retro case
The flagship of the Seascoper 600 was and is its water resistance. This is still 600 meters. Its little sister, the Seascoper 300, manages half that, which is still impressive and would be enough for most people. But those who really want more will have fun with the finesse of the TITONI Seascoper 600 Retro. A helium valve is integrated into the housing, which is particularly useful for scuba divers.
TITONI uses classic stainless steel for this reference and ceramic for the unidirectional rotating diver’s bezel. The materials are impressive with their outstanding workmanship. The sapphire crystal also bears the ‘Premium’ seal of quality. The scratch-resistant watch glass has an anti-reflective coating on both sides. This visibly improves readability.
The screw-down crown is framed by a protective cover. On the back, the transparent case back provides a view of the movement.
TITONIS T10 – a COSC-certified chronometer
And it has it all. We are dealing with a manufacture caliber here. TITONI calls its in-house automatic movement T10. It easily outperforms “off-the-peg” movements in terms of power reserve. Fully wound, it runs for an impressive three days.
The T10 is also a COSC-certified chronometer. In order to bear the Swiss seal of quality, the caliber is subjected to extensive tests. For example, the rate accuracy may lie within an interval of -4 to +6 seconds. The T10 drives the hours, minutes and seconds.
My conclusion on the TITONI Seascoper 600 83600 S-BO-255 Retro
In theory, it’s always so simple. You read a test report and after carefully weighing up all the specifications, you decide to buy the TITONI Seascoper 600 – or not, if the 300 meets your requirements. But it’s not that simple. Most of us, I am sure, do not necessarily need a diver’s watch like the Seascoper 600. The Seascoper 300 would certainly do the trick. After all, it is also a certified chronometer, its 300 meters of water resistance are more than enough and it is also cheaper.
But we are not that sensible. Buying a watch is an emotional affair. The TITONI Seascoper 600 83600 S-BO-255 Retro offers plenty of opportunities to seduce us. Be it its charming, tasteful design, the manufacture caliber or simply the fact that we could theoretically dive 600 meters deep with it. It’s understandable that such key data makes you weak at the knees. And that’s okay in a way.
Anyone who opts for the TITONI Seascoper 600 is wearing one of the best diving watches in the premium segment, with or without a retro look. The timepiece also offers an incredibly good price-performance ratio, even if some will find the 2,030.00 euros not exactly cheap.
And whether you are a professional diver and push the watch to the limit or prefer to sit in your favorite café on the promenade and enjoy its presence, it really doesn’t matter.
