The Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M has been known to the world since 1995 at the latest. In James Bond 007: GoldenEye, the diver’s watch with the blue dial was seen for the first time on the wrist of Hollywood star Pierce Brosnan. In keeping with the current James Bond hype, I have tested the current model for you! It was again provided to me by the luxury watch specialist Horando.de .

The license to kill – with a Seamaster on your wrist
The Swiss watch brand Omega and probably its most famous diving watch, the Seamaster, are inseparable. Released in its first version in 1993, the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M made its definitive breakthrough two years later. Since then, the partnership between the traditional brand and the world’s most popular MI6 agent has continued. And: since then, Bond has also worn a new Omega Seamaster on his wrist in every new movie.
Like the movie franchise itself, the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M has undergone some major makeovers in recent years. Nevertheless: the core values, the typical characteristics, have remained the same. This concerns the timeless design trimmed to functionality, the use of modern materials and last but not least, the distinctive helium valve at 10 o’clock, one of the most important trademarks of the sporty diver’s watch.
The Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M has a great reputation. The watch is now available in countless color variants, with special materials or as a special 007 watch, to match the current film, of course. “Omega and 007 are appreciated for their sense of fashion, their spirit of adventure and their reliability – they complement each other perfectly,” they confidently proclaim on their own website. Is the typical Bond watch really as good as the reputation that precedes it?
The classic Seamaster watch
Horando sent me the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M Co-Axial Master Chronometer in 42 millimeters for this watch review. The long name stands for one of the most classic versions of the Seamaster. With the blue dial, just like its first appearance in GoldenEye. According to Omega, it was then-costume designer Lindy Hemming who came up with the color scheme. “I felt that Commander Bond, a sailor, diver and understated gentleman, should wear the Seamaster with a blue dial.” For most of you, the variant with reference number 210.30.42.20.03.001 is certainly also the most exciting watch in the collection.
It quickly becomes clear what kind of watch the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M is. A sporty diver that stands for performance with modern materials and functionality. At least, that’s what I notice when I hold the timepiece in my hands for the first time. The fascination that this watch exerts does not come by chance.
The current generation of Seamaster watches has been on the market since 2017. Basically, Omega has not changed much in the successful design of its diving flagship. You have to take a closer look. What stands out is the wave motif incorporated with lasers, one of the visual highlights. This model from Horando’s store was built in 2021 and therefore still has its full 5-year warranty. The original box, warranty card and an instruction manual are included.
The Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M on the wrist
Who is Omega’s classic watch perfect for (at least from an optical point of view)? This question is quickly answered. For anyone looking for a sporty diver’s watch, modern, contemporary (yet timeless). High-quality materials and components like the classic stainless steel bracelet ensure that the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M is also an exciting timepiece for everyday wear. At business meetings, by the pool or at a gala dinner. The Seamaster cuts a fine figure at any occasion. In this way, it also resembles James Bond in some respects.
It is the small details that make the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M stand out from the crowd of diving watches that are quite similar to each other. One of them is the helium valve, which is indeed essential for a serious diver’s watch. This way, you can tell from afar who is wearing a Seamaster on their wrist. Another plus point: in my opinion, Omega was able to transport the classic charm of the 90s original well into the 21st century.
You see it time and time again: some diver’s watches are so massive that they only look harmonious on wrists with a large girth. Omega has not bought into the trend of ever-larger cases and has gone for a profile of 42 millimeters in diameter and 13.5 millimeters in height. This makes the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M fit practically everyone.
The case of the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M
The case of this Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M is made of classic stainless steel. However, the manufacturer has experimented with other case materials as well. This is evidenced by the current 007 special edition made of titanium. The elegant case middle curves into the crown guard and lugs, which are themselves slightly curved, giving the Seamaster a pleasant fit on the wrist. Well proportioned, the stainless steel bezel ring sits on the front and the caseback sits on the midsection. The stainless steel surfaces are primarily satin-finished, giving the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M its functional, sporty look. Qualitatively, Omega can be counted among the absolute elite class here without hesitation. The choice and processing of materials are on a real luxury level.
Over the years, the helium valve at 10 o’clock has become one of the defining design elements of the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M. The technical feature is mainly used in professional diving watches. It ensures that the helium accumulated inside the case can escape and the watch does not burst due to the excess pressure. Of course, we will most likely never use this feature. The same goes for the maximum diving depth of 300 meters, which none of us will penetrate. But both the water resistance of up to 30 bar (that’s 300 meters) and the helium valve impressively demonstrate what the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M is capable of.
One reason for the good water resistance is also the watch crystal, for which Omega has chosen scratch-resistant and durable sapphire. During production, the glass was provided with anti-reflective layers, which ensures that the dial remains perfectly legible – even under poor lighting conditions.
The Omega Master Co-Axial 8800 in detail
Through the glazed caseback with its wavy stainless steel rim, the movement that powers the Seamaster becomes visible. The so-called Master Co-Axial 8800 is a manufacture caliber and is considered one of the best on the market. Certified as a chronometer by the renowned Swiss testing body COSC, the caliber stands for resistance to magnetism and thus very precise accuracy. As a result, the time needs to be corrected much less frequently in everyday use. Omega’s exclusive Co-Axial escapement minimizes friction within the automatic movement, which in turn makes the Master Chronometer 8800 more durable. So the above-average 5-year warranty is no accident. Omega claims a power reserve of an enduring 55 hours.
Omega also uses sapphire crystal for the caseback, impressively showcasing the Master Chronometer 8800. In my opinion, another of the already numerous highlights that the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M has to offer.
Ceramic and its many advantages – dial and bezel
The small lettering under the center, ZrO2, stands for zirconia, which is what the dial is made of. This admittedly somewhat complicated term stands for nothing more than ceramic, which comes in a rich navy blue and is polished. The literally “extra polish” is provided by the laser-engraved waves, the finish of which couldn’t be more precise.
The date window has moved to 6 o’clock and now gives the dial a harmonious symmetry. Previous models still carried the feature at 3 o’clock. The applied round diver indices make the dial even more vivid and interesting. Like the skeletonized hands, they are rhodium-plated, polished and additionally coated with white Super-LumiNova. This allows you to keep a clear view even in the dark, for example under water. Red color accents visually lighten up the dial.
The lightweight and robust ceramic is not only used for the dial. The bezel also has an inlay made of the blue-colored material. Ceramic has a decisive advantage: it guarantees that the colors of the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M will not fade even after years. Unidirectional rotating and equipped with a diving scale, the bezel can be used on more demanding dives. I positively notice the notches of the iron ring, with which you can still adjust the bezel even with gloves.
A bracelet for every occasion
If you choose an Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M with a classic stainless steel bracelet, you’re doing everything right; even if many buyers now opt for a rubber strap. Stainless steel would still be my first choice if you want to wear the watch in everyday life, especially for the slightly fancier occasions.
That’s not to say that the stainless steel band is unsporty, quite the opposite. The secure folding clasp with the diver’s extension can be fine-tuned so that the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M even fits over a wetsuit. The visual highlight of the bracelet: the engraved Omega lettering with logo.
My conclusion about the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M
With the Seamaster Professional Diver 300M, Omega displays a firework and presents a classic that can truly be counted among the best diving watches on the market. Whether with its manufacture caliber, perfect finish, or iconic design; the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M sets the standard for diving watches in pretty much all areas. And if you come with the argument that a Seamaster is nothing special anymore, you should take a look at the now numerous variants that the brand has released in recent years. But this model with the reference number 210.30.42.20.03.001 remains for me the absolute classic and therefore my favorite.
With an entry price of less than 5000 euros, the Seamaster collection represents the most affordable models from Omega. The specimen presented here costs 4,585 euros in the Horando store. My final thanks once again to Horando for making this test possible!
