Enjoy the practical benefits of an Argonautic diver’s watch, wear the timeless Tiffany look on your wrist and, by the way, make the world a little bit better – that’s possible with the new DAVOSA Argonautic Coral Limited Edition. I took a closer look at the two special models!
How watches can protect coral reefs
Tiffany & Co.’s famous shade of blue has taken on a life of its own. First used on a cover of the New York jewelry brand in 1845, the turquoise blue now has its followers all over the world and is constantly being reinterpreted by different brands. Now DAVOSA has also ventured to use the striking color and equipped its professional Argonautic diver’s watch with a turquoise dial. This is not without reason, however, as the reference number 161.527.40 and its orange sister model are thematically located in the coral reef.
As a diver’s watch, that makes sense; the two garish hues are also found in abundance in the diverse underwater world – for now. Because the release of the DAVOSA Argonautic Coral Limited Edition has a serious background. Worldwide, the natural heritage of coral reefs is endangered and already destroyed in many places. For this reason, the Swiss watch manufacturer has teamed up with the NGO Coral Guardian. Coral Guardian supports and organizes projects worldwide to protect and rebuild coral reefs. Proceeds from the DAVOSA Argonautic Coral Limited Edition go directly to coral reintroduction and education of the local population. Specifically, it goes to Hatamin Island, which is part of Indonesia.
What BEYOND STEEL® is all about
Technically, the two new references are based on the DAVOSA Argonautic BG, of which I was able to convince myself some time ago. The classic received a makeover just last year and has been improved in several areas. For example, the revised design and the optimized bezel. At the heart of the tool watch’s facelift, however, is BEYOND STEEL®, a new type of material. Visually, it looks very similar to stainless steel, but in terms of quality it is literally “beyond steel”. BEYOND STEEL® impresses with a hardness of 9.5 Mohs, which makes it almost as hard as diamond. The indestructible material guarantees the DAVOSA Argonautic Coral Limited Edition a long service life. Thus, nothing stands in the way of dives anymore.
With a dive extension, a unidirectional rotating bezel, a helium valve and a water resistance up to 30 bar, even professionals get their money’s worth here. A sapphire crystal including anti-reflective coating protects against annoying light reflections under water. The watch is powered by a Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, which DAVOSA calls DAV 3021. The power reserve is a maximum of 38 hours.
My conclusion about the DAVOSA Argonautic Coral Limited Edition
Even in its basic form, the Argonautic was incredibly powerful, durable, and relatively inexpensive. Outstanding, innovative materials and impeccable workmanship are the success factors of this classic. The two new color shades now give DAVOSA’s workhorse a new shine. It’s nice to know that by making a purchase, you’re doing something good and protecting coral reefs at the same time. Thanks to BEYOND STEEL®, even our descendants will be able to dive with this watch. Let’s just hope that we will have protected our underwater world by then!
The number of pieces is limited to 300 pieces per dial. Both references cost 1,158.00 euros. By the way: enclosed you will receive a Supporter Certificate, which certifies your contribution to the protection of the coral reefs. In the following I have linked all further information.
