The Cadola X Cosworth 65th Anniversary Nigel Blue is the result of the collaboration of two motorsport-affine brands. One makes watches, the other has made history in Formula 1. This can only be good….
The most unusual watch winder ever
On my desk is an opened watch winder. I it – fixed diagonally on a cushion – a sporty wristwatch rotates around its own axis. When closed, the watch winder is a dark blue helmet! The watch inside is the new joint project between watch brand Cadola and British engine manufacturer Cosworth, which celebrates its 65th anniversary in 2023. These two brands seem to have sought and found each other. Both are concerned with performance, speed and perfection. Their joint collection includes 4 limited edition special models. The CD-1025-22 – better known as Nigel Blue – was kindly provided to me for this short review.
It is named after Nigel Mansell. The British racing driver became world champion with Williams in 1992 and also drove with Cosworth engines during his career.
This watch does not fit into any category
Whether the Cadola X Cosworth 65th Anniversary Nigel Blue can live up to its great role model, however, remains to be seen in detail. From a purely visual point of view, the stainless steel watch with the dark blue dial shows that it was inspired by racing. Light blue markers and orange accents on the indices and the second hand convey speed and are reminiscent of the speedometer of an accelerating car.
Despite the racing theme, the Cadola X Cosworth 65th Anniversary Nigel Blue manages to bridge the gap between the racetrack and everyday life. With its functional stainless steel case, three-link stainless steel bracelet, and the soothing blue hue of the dial, the three-hand watch becomes a companion for any situation. Accordingly, it is hardly surprising that the Nigel Blue can hardly be put into any category. After all, the usual totalizers for a racing chronograph are missing. However, this does not diminish the pleasure of the good workmanship of the materials.
Measuring 42 millimeters in diameter, the watch is water resistant to a depth of 100 meters, according to Cadola. At least swimming is not a problem.
Cadola X Cosworth 65th Anniversary Nigel Blue: my conclusion
Cadola’s watches are a must-have for motorsport fans. Anyone who has witnessed the successes of the teams with Cosworth engines should definitely think about buying one of the four references.
Currently, the set with the helmet watch winder costs USD 859.00. You can also purchase the watch winder itself individually in different colors. Cadola gives a warranty of 2 years.
