The BRISTON Streamliner Urban 10th Anniversary is a special chronograph. This is not only due to its masculine appearance, but also to details that may not be immediately apparent. What is this chronograph in typical British style all about? Before the watch went into my store, I put it through its paces for you…

New chronographs arrived

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been planning to introduce you to new watches from my store from time to time. Of course, this is a form of advertising. It is also clear that I generally stand behind the watch when I sell it. A real “surprise”, i.e. a crushing criticism, will therefore not happen at the end of this watch review, you don’t have to be a clairvoyant for that. I’m more interested in explaining to you why I think each model is so successful. Of course, that doesn’t mean I can’t mention small flaws here and there.

You can also find these two BRISTON chronographs in my store from now on. They are variants of a special anniversary model that BRISTON has launched on the market to celebrate its tenth birthday. I think you won’t be the only ones reading this who are hearing the British-sounding name for the first time. In fact, you have to dig a little deeper into the subject to get to know this family-run and comparatively young company.

Sporty chic: 10 years of BRISTON

The foundation of the brand is an unusual combination: the design of the wristwatches exudes the British spirit. Nevertheless, BRISTON is French through and through. Brice Jaunet was responsible for founding the company. The man is not a career changer, quite the opposite. After 15 years working in the industry at companies such as Richemont, Cartier and the LVMH Group (here as Export Director), the former Oxford student took the plunge – apparently successfully, as the ten-year history of BRISTON suggests.

The motto behind BRISTON is easy to remember: the models should look sporty chic on the wrist. The expression may seem a little abstract, but in my opinion, the current test models quickly show the direction in which it is heading visually. The British lifestyle, which is characterized by sports such as cricket and polo, served as a model. Nonetheless these are by no means the only part of the formula. Added to this are innovative materials – which we will also be able to marvel at in a moment, as well as specially selected colors.

The result is an end product that is difficult to put into words and must instead be seen with your own eyes. The French imitate the British. It works surprisingly well.

The new flagship?

As an anniversary watch and birthday present to itself, the Streamliner Urban 10th Anniversary is not just any watch, but an important building block for the BRISTON brand. Innovative technology meets exclusive design in the angular chronograph. The Streamliner is intended to serve as a prestige object and point the way in the direction BRISTON intends to take over the next 10 years (and beyond). After all, an appropriate limitation is also appropriate. In the case of the Streamliner Urban 10th Anniversary, this is extremely exclusive. The chronograph, which is available with a black or white dial, is limited to 50 pieces per dial color.

However, it’s not just the two pieces that BRISTON provided me with for this test and watch photos that are going into my store. In theory, you can order as many as you like – while stocks last. As you know it from me, you will find the photo watches discounted and marked accordingly in the store.

The BRISTON Streamliner Urban 10th Anniversary on the wrist

The production number 3 (with white dial) and the 4 (with black dial) are delivered in a white box in a dark blue slipcase. Their appearance does not necessarily suggest that the contents contain two wristwatches costing 2,000.00 euros each. At least BRISTON has not gone to any unusual lengths to present exclusivity. But, as we all know, people are interested in the contents. On the other hand, you can also use the compact packaging, which is not so wasteful with space, as a travel box.

I really like it straight away. The BRISTON Streamliner Urban 10th Anniversary has an edgy, masculine design that has a strong character and is memorable. It has a classic British feel to it, while at the same time being very sporty and not at any time old-fashioned or tasteless. This is what BRISTON describes as sporty chic. The dial, which can be either black or white, is framed in an almost square case measuring 43 x 43 millimetres. However, due to the non-circular shape, there is significantly more surface area on the diameter, which gives the Streamliner a very brute appearance – a statement watch.

Incidentally, the British style can be wonderfully combined with different outfits: Shirt, cashmere sweater or jacket allow for numerous options. Once you’re all dressed up, the BRISTON Streamliner Urban 10th Anniversary on your wrist always gives you the same result: you look chic. Sporty chic.

How tortoise shell acetate actively improves wearing comfort

You may have already noticed the golden-brown sides of the case in the photos, which are reminiscent of tortoise shell. This is where the “secret” of BRISTON’s innovative choice of materials is hidden. For the first time ever, I come into contact with Italian cellulose acetate. Its characteristic color pattern is always different, which makes each Streamliner unique. The cotton-based plastic is produced in one of the last Italian factories, and the manufacturing process is considered to be particularly complex. It can only be produced in blocks, which have to be milled from the solid using CNC technology to make housings. The originally dull material then has to be polished by hand. So why is so much effort being made to use this material, which has been around since the 1940s?

Details of the case

In addition to the unique pattern, this is due to the positive material properties of bamboo wool resin. In summer, it absorbs the heat from the wrist. You don’t sweat so quickly and wearing comfort is improved. The makers also rave about the high elasticity, which makes the cellulose acetate virtually indestructible – not bad properties for a wristwatch whose case construction is designed for durability. First and foremost, however, I like the beautiful, hand-polished surface.

Although the body is made of cellulose acetate, the first thing that catches the eye on the wrist is the angular bezel and the lugs. Like the screw-down container that houses the movement, they are made of 316L stainless steel and are both matt and polished. The BRISTON logo engraved on the top of the crown is more reminiscent of a coat of arms. It incorporates the national flag of France in the company’s corporate identity. You can’t hide your roots like that after all. A 2.40 millimeter thick sapphire crystal protects the dial and remains scratch-resistant.

BRISTON certifies that its Streamliner Urban 10th Anniversary is water-resistant to a depth of 50 meters. This means that the chronograph is splash-proof, but I wouldn’t think of going swimming with it.

Movement, dial and bracelet of the BRISTON Streamliner Urban 10th Anniversary

The BRISTON Streamliner Urban 10th Anniversary is powered by a Swiss automatic caliber. This is the Sellita SW500a, itself a clone of the famous ETA 7750 chronograph movement. Most people are probably already aware of this, but the Sellita SW500a drives the classic chronograph functions. These are a 30-minute counter, 12-hour counter, small seconds and a date including weekday display in addition to the hours, minutes and seconds.

The maximum power reserve is 62 hours. A visual highlight is the rotor with an engraving to mark the tenth anniversary.

The dial was designed with great attention to detail. The totalizers are clearly legible in dark blue and silver on a choice of black or white and silver background. Square and with strongly rounded corners, they echo the shape of the case. A so-called waffle pattern lends structure to the dial. The matt steel hands are coated with SuperLuminova C1 luminous material so that the dial can also be read in the dark.

The calfskin strap, which is available in brown or black depending on the dial color, is extremely comfortable to wear. Note the attention to detail here too: The French national colors are sewn into the top right of the strap. The stainless steel pin buckle is adorned with BRISTON lettering.

My conclusion on the BRISTON Streamliner Urban 10th Anniversary

The Streamliner is a chronograph that we should all take a closer look at. I, for one, am really taken with the classic British design with sporty accents. In combination with the angular case and the traditional calfskin strap, BRISTON has brought a timepiece onto the market that you won’t forget in a hurry.

This also applies to the quality of the materials and workmanship, which is undoubtedly in the premium segment. I am impressed by the cellulose acetate, which not only looks great, but also has useful properties. The Sellita SW500a ticks away inside. Eye-catchers such as the French national colors embroidered in the strap or the coat of arms engraved in the crown round off the excellent overall impression. What more could you want?

If you are interested in a new watch, it costs 2,000.00 euros with either a black or white dial.
