At BALLAST you will find very exceptional watches. A cool story about pirates and the oceans. And a completely new operation of watches. One thing is clear in any case – a BALLAST watch is immediately recognizable by its wrist!

Tell me a bit about the BALLAST brand. Where does the name come from? What is your message?

Ballast – the word Ballast is derived as below.

A ballast tank is a compartment within a boat, ship or other floating structure that holds water, which is used as ballast to provide stability for a vessel.

Our brand seeks to pay homage and tribute to Submarines and Submariners, the brave sailors who pilot and live inside submarines for months at a time in such trying conditions. It is the majesty of these large underwater vessels and the strength of will and character of the submariners that is at the heart of the watch brand’s tribute

Which was the first BALLAST watch?

The First Ballast watch now long discontinued was a watch called the TRAFALGAR featuring a canteen crown – the watch was oversized and reminiscent of military , navy style water proofed watches that were famed for their crown protection and water resistance and utility

There is currently the collection TRAFALGAR & VALIANT. What is the idea behind each and which watches can I find there?

The TRAFALGAR is today the iconic watch shape of the Ballast collection. It features a unique PATENTED bezel gear mechanism which allows for time adjustment and movement winding through the BEZEL itself.

With a striking feature such as this, the story of the Trafalgar is told not only by Engineering but via Materials, and Movements,

Featuring interesting materials such as Titanium, Bronze, Meteorite the Trafalgar series brings the unique functionality to a series of different watches that offer something unique and one of a kind for the collector.

The BL-3133-03 TRAFALGAR is currently my favourite watch. I like the harmonious colour concept. What is the idea behind the individual colour variations?

Ballast BL-3139-02
Ballast BL-3139-02

We used IP Black, Rosegold and a two tone leather strap to harmonize colours that are both masculine and rugged yet luxurious – such as the rose gold accent on the bezel and the crown and indexes which contrasts on the IP black case and dial which both blend well with the brown leather strap with black edged finishing

Will there also be watches with skulls, perhaps as a limited edition?

Ballast Meteroite BL-3138-02
Ballast Meteroite BL-3138-02

The BRONZE Dreadnought is a Limited Edition

The METEORITE Trafalgar is a Limited Edition

Each is Swiss Made and uniquely numbered.

Skull based designs to celebrate the iconography of the Jolly Roger as it is connected to the traditions of Submarines at war – will be considered for sure !

What can we expect from BALLAST in 2019?

More designs, more collectables and a diver series which will have professional specification dive watch styling inside the Unique Trafalgar Bezel Gear mechanism.

How important is social media for you?

  1. Hi, I have just recently acquired my grandads watch. It’s an original Trafalgar 200 skindiver colour is all silver with original stretch silver strap.
    Dated late 60’s early 70’s
Although I don’t want to sell it I’d love to know what value it is? It’s in great condition!
