At watch manufacturer MeisterSinger, everything is a little bit different. The company produces mechanical wristwatches based on the timepieces of past centuries. What this has to do with a new feeling of time, you will find out in this portrait about MeisterSinger!
MeisterSinger is based in Münster, Western Germany. Here the brand is located in a large restored building with a pointed roof at the newly designed city harbor. The Münster-based company was founded in 2001. This means that it is neither one of the long-established, traditional manufacturers nor one of the young start-ups that have become famous for crowdfunding platforms. MeisterSinger simply goes its own way.
This refers primarily to the design that sets the brand apart from other representatives of the industry. Anyone who has not yet come into contact with MeisterSinger will immediately notice the watches. After all, like their great idols of the late Middle Ages, they have only one hand. This makes it impossible to measure time accurately a la “two-twenty-nine-pm”. On a genuine MeisterSinger watch, however, it is “just about half past two”.
The idea of concentrating fully on the single-hand design came from the company founder Manfred Brassler himself. Previously, a few watch companies had only used the design on individual models. Brassler creates his classic timepieces with this unique feature of the single hand in the technical and cultural tradition of early watchmaking. The designer was already active in the industry as a jeweler and businessman before the foundation of MeisterSinger.
A founder with clear ideas
“All these experiences were incorporated into the creation of a new brand for mechanical wristwatches. Right from the beginning I had the idea to go way back to the early days of measuring time, to escape the brand environment in which today hundreds of manufacturers struggle for independence and strive to stand out from their rivals“, he says on the MeisterSinger homepage. The founder has clear visions ” I wanted my watch to look like an original instrument of measurement, unmatched in terms of simplicity and clarity – concentrating on the essentials in design“.
The design with the high recognition value is indeed limited to the essentials. On the wrist, the watches are restrained, elegant and classic. Unmistakable: the MeisterSinger signature including sickle and dot. An interesting fact: both the logo and the name MeisterSinger are derived from music. While the logo symbolizes a fermata (the extension of a tone), MeisterSinger were middle-class singers in the Middle Ages. The first mechanical watches were built in the late Middle Ages. Many of MeisterSinger’s watches are inspired by their design and history. When you buy a new watch, you actually learn something about the history of these mechanical watches.
All about MeisterSinger – the place in the market
How does the MeisterSinger watch company fit into the market? In terms of price, you can speak of an upscale level. The timepieces are in the premium segment. That means: high-quality materials, good workmanship, exclusive design and Swiss movements. Currently the range comprises 5 product groups with 16 series. The cheapest models start at a price of just under 1100 Euros. The “Meisterstücke”, as MeisterSinger calls them, on the other hand, can reach prices of up to 5000 euros, depending on which model is chosen.
I especially like the wide range of models. Even though each watch is subordinated to the discreet, functional design with recognition value, each collection nevertheless deals with its own era. As a result, all watches have different design characteristics and develop their own charm. MeisterSinger does not offer real “men’s watches”, i.e. masculine chronographs and delicate “ladies’ watches”. This is not necessary, after all the simple and functional design is suitable for both genders. Many watches are offered in several sizes. For example, the Neo is available in two sizes: with a 40 millimeter case diameter for men and 36 millimeters for women.
At MeisterSinger, it is all about individuality. They have understood that this is more important today than ever before – and has demonstrated this impressively. All watches can be configured in any desired design. For the dials, the manufacturer relies on classic colors. The customer can choose between tasteful blue, white or cream tones. MeisterSinger offers various bracelets for this purpose. Whether leather straps with crocodile embossing or in other designs, light brown, gray or cognac-colored. Or an elegant Milanese bracelet after all? At MeisterSinger everyone will find what they are looking for.
MeisterSinger: all about awards and nominations
The MeisterSinger watches have won 30 prizes so far. Various models from different collections have received the reddot Award or the German Design Award. Astroscope has also been nominated again for next year. Currently it has been awarded the reddot-Award, the iF-Design Award and the German Design Award.

MeisterSinger’s idea of decelerating time and giving it more quality has convinced me from the very beginning… and apparently developed a passion in many people. A passion to live the moment more and rush less from one to the other. To approach things in a more relaxed way.
In the end we have to solve all these problems ourselves. A MeisterSinger watch cannot do this alone. However, it is a step in the right direction and can provide the decisive impulse. In any case, the feeling of deceleration can be felt. My first MeisterSinger, the Perigraph, did just that. A little more serenity, a little less tension. To put it in a nutshell: a little bit more quality time.
