The 18 Best Dive Watches 2022/23?

Best of Dive Watches WATCHDAVID 2022 & 2023

The year 2022 is coming to an end – time to take stock and look at the dive watches that stood out in my memory this year. Divers are probably among the most popular wristwatches of all. So in a good collection, the robust tool watches should not be missing. And as we all know, you can never have too many watches. What qualifies this small compilation for a best-of? Okay, we are talking about dive watches. But there the common denominator already stops. From inexpensive tool watches to classic designs to professional models and birds of paradise, everything is here. This is already evident from the price range. Whether you want to invest your part-time salary or rather the equivalent of a small car, you have to know yourself. Nevertheless, this list of 18 best dive watches 2022/23 should make the purchase decision easier for you.

Video 18 Best Dive Watches 2022/23 – my favorites from 390.00 to 7,000.00 Euros

What does it depend on?

Many models – this is especially true for dive watches – are actually timeless. You can see this in manufacturers like Seiko, who have been thoroughly dusting off old watch designs and re-releasing them, and not just since this year. Sherpa Watches is reviving an entire philosophy with its compressor technology. Innovations do exist, but then they are more likely to be found in the area of materials. Carbon is no longer reserved for racing chronographs, as TITONI proves. Ideally, you buy a good dive watch to wear it for years, if not decades. Important: More expensive is not necessarily better. Even for a few hundred euros, you can find surprisingly good quality here and there. On the other hand, there is no upper limit. The question of what you need or really want should therefore be asked in any case. The superlative “best” is therefore a matter of opinion.

For the list of 18 best dive watches 2022/23 I have put together 18 models from 14 brands for you. You’ll find a direct link to the store at the end of each text. Have fun browsing!

1. DUZU Watches DW-D2 Coral Bay

We start this list of 18 best dive watches 2022/23 with a secret tip. How about a little dive into the coral reefs of the azure Coral Bay? The DW-D2 from the Western Australian design studio is named after the diver’s paradise north of Perth. My recommendation of the collection is the Beadblasted Stainless variant with date window in rustic look. For only about USD 549.00 you wear a no-frills diver’s watch that focuses on the essentials: Functionality, free of airs and graces. DUZU Watches uses a reliable 9015 automatic movement from the Japanese manufacturer Miyota. Those who often dive in coral reefs on vacation have probably often been annoyed by annoying scratches caused by touching coral. The matte IP coating of the case should minimize this danger. 300 meters maximum diving depth is a remarkable value!

My review on YouTube

Seiko pulls an icon of the 1960s out of the archives and launches it as part of a special edition. Now, however, significantly refreshed and with cool blue tones meant to emulate glaciers. The exciting story behind it: the innovative original from 1968 accompanied adventurers on their expeditions into the eternal ice. In my opinion, a diver’s watch that functions under such hostile environmental conditions is therefore a perfect fit for the wrist during the cold season. The born winter watch also convinces qualitatively. A perfect workmanship, just typical Seiko. Despite or just because of its functional character, I can recommend the stainless-steel diver especially as a daily beater. The cost: 1,300.00 euros. In addition to the Prospex 1968 Diver’s SPB299J1, you can find two other models in the collection.

3. Spinnaker SP-5108-33 Fleuss Automatic Pearl Diver Limited Edition – White Pearl

Spinnaker also takes us on a journey through time. This time it goes to the 50s, garnished with a touch of luxury. No other dive watch from the manufacturer represents the heyday of dive watches like the Fleuss, named after a famous diving engineer. Now, the retro diver has received an update and shines with a mother-of-pearl dial that is handcrafted on each one. Powered by a Seiko NH35 automatic movement, the timepieces are limited to just 450 pieces per reference. With a water resistance of up to 15 bar, the Fleuss is no exceptional athlete, but it makes the dive watch experience affordable. You have to spend 390.00 euros.

4. Ballast BL-3150-03 Holland Automatic

Well, also a bronze-colored watch made it into my dive watch 18 best dive watches 2022/23 list this year. Strictly speaking, the BL-3150-03 is not made of bronze at all, but only of brown colored stainless steel. But that is not important here. More interesting is the historical background, for which the brand Ballast is known. The BL-3150-03 Holland Automatic is named after the first submarine of the US Navy. With 200 meters of diving depth, Ballast’s wristwatch is indeed suitable for diving. On the brown leather strap, however, the timepiece with the interesting dial design is more of a reliable companion for everyday wear. Fans of military history will get their money’s worth. Speaking of cost – Ballast estimates USD 550.00.

5. VANDAAG Tiefsee Automatic (Balance) Grey (reference number 19030403320)

Best of Dive Watches VANDAAG Tiefsee Automatic

If you read you are looking for the 18 best dive watches 2022/23 and want to buy your first dive watch, you usually don’t start with high four-digit sums. VANDAAG`s Tiefsee Automatic is the ideal diver for beginners and offers already for fair 399.00 euros (359.00 euros with nylon strap) an appealing diving experience. The reduced, unagitated design has a Nordic feel. In terms of craftsmanship, VANDAAG knows how to build watches. Another highlight is the inexpensive but powerful Miyota 821A, which can be admired through the case back. Whether the deep sea (in German: ‘Tiefsee’) can live up to its name is a matter of opinion. VANDAAG claims a water resistance of up to 200 meters. Nevertheless, you simply can’t go wrong with this diver’s watch. Thanks to enough color alternatives, everyone will find what they are looking for!

6. RZE Resolute Supercompressor 2022

2022, dive watches with compressor technology made a comeback. Several companies discovered the almost forgotten case design for themselves – including RZE. The Resolute Supercompressor is the affordable entry for those who want to enjoy a compressor dive watch. Curious: RZE’s model is actually a field watch. Can you combine something like that with diver qualities? Why not, actually. The watch hybrid, which is water-resistant up to 20 bar, collects further plus points with a conveniently operable, internal bezel and a decent finish including a titanium case(!). The worthwhile overall package costs just 699.00 euros. If you are not interested in the compressor technology, you can buy the Resolute basic model for 150 Euros less!

7. Squale 1521 Ocean Mesh 1521OCN.ME20

Where other manufacturers of this 18 best dive watches 2022/23 list follow the latest trends, one brand has been going its own successful way for over 70 years now. The 1521 is the prime example of why the traditional Swiss company Squale does everything right. The diver in the unexciting design delivers solid values on the test bench and embodies quality, functionality and an excellent price-performance ratio. You don’t have to expect experiments here. Numerous configuration options for the case, dial and bracelet meet today’s customer wishes. All this is available for just under 1000 euros. The Ocean Mesh I tested is priced at 996.00 euros.

8. Andersmann DEEP OCEAN ANN0982

In the race for the best water resistance, Andersmann’s DEEP OCEAN is one of the most successful competitors. The black watch, affectionately called “plate mine” by some fans because of its size, lives up to its name. Theoretically, you could dive to depths of 3000 meters with it! Despite its size, the functional toolwatch is lightweight and comfortable to wear. Diving specialist Andersmann uses grade 5 titanium, while ETA’s magnificent 2892-A2 automatic movement is at work inside. With the black DLC coating, the rubber strap and a helium valve, the DEEP OCEAN ANN0982 becomes an extreme athlete for all occasions. Limited to 100 pieces, the model costs USD 2,180.00.

9. Sherpa OPS

Best Dive Watches Sherpa OPS
Photo © 2022 by WATCHDAVID® David Drilling – All rights reserved

Watches of the Sherpa collection by legendary Swiss brand Enicar are real rarities. Fans love them, celebrities meanwhile too and now I discovered the iconic dive watches for myself. Martin Klocke, founder of the new Sherpa Watches brand, has made it his mission to breathe new life into the timepieces. Sherpa and Enicar watches have a special feature: they feature compressor technology from case manufacturer Ervin Piquerez SA. In the 1960s, it was difficult to create gaskets for the emerging diver’s watches. Compressor cases were an elegant solution. With the Sherpa OPS (reference number 001/02/01), dives to 200 meters are possible. And because Martin Klocke is a Buddhist (as are the Sherpa people), the Sellita SW200-1 movement bears a Buddhist mantra. A breathtaking total work of art, which is limited to 150 pieces and costs 5,800.00 euros.

10. Sherpa Ultradive

Best Dive Watches TITONI Seascoper 600 CarbonTech
Photo © 2022 by WATCHDAVID® David Drilling – All rights reserved

With an MSRP of a whopping 5,900.00 euros, the Sherpa Ultradive (reference number 002/01/01) is one of the most expensive dive watches in my 18 best dive watches 2022/23 list. The second model from the newcomer brand Sherpa Watches is thematically and technically based on the legendary Sherpa collection of the Swiss brand Enicar from the 1960s, just like its unequal sister OPS. Compared to this, the Ultradive comes across a bit more dignified, more classic, but not quite as sporty. Which of the two divers you choose is probably a matter of taste. For me, both the Sherpa Ultradive and the OPS are two of the absolute highlights of the watch year 2022. A must for all diving and retro fans!

11. Findeisen F-1253 Prussian Blue S

Best Dive Watches Seiko Prospex SPB299J1
Photo © 2022 by WATCHDAVID® David Drilling – All rights reserved

The Bavarian brand Findeisen has existed for just 5 years. However, when you hold the F-1253 Prussian Blue in your hands, you might think you’re dealing with a watch from a manufacturer that has been established on the market for decades. Why? Because the model is mature in every respect. The angular design picks up on the silhouette of the city of Klaipėda, traced back to the founder’s great-great-grandfather and his passion for urban studies. However, my personal highlight of the tool watch is without question the new FW4251 automatic movement. It is based on an A26.2 manufacture caliber by Damasko from German production and is used here in the TOP version. If you love unconventional and high-quality mechanical movements, you should take a closer look at the Findeisen F-1253. The price is 2,900.00 euros, the crucial for dive watches water resistance at a maximum of 20 bar.

12. Davosa Argonautic BGBS Automatic (reference number 161.528.10)

Best of Dive Watches Davosa Ternos Ceramic GMT Pepsi Diver
Photo © 2022 by WATCHDAVID® David Drilling – All rights reserved

With the Davosa Argonautic BGBS Automatic, the Swiss manufacturer wants to leave stainless steel behind and usher in a new era. BEYOND STEEL is the name of the new material, which is said to be almost as hard as diamond and extremely heat-resistant. It is used for the bezel. Like the rest of the watch, it has an extremely classic appearance. Available since 2008, the model is named after the ancient ship Argo and is an institution in Davosa’s collection. Equipped with a water resistance up to 30 bar, a helium valve and the DAV3021 named SW200-1 Elaboré automatic movement, the customer gets a lot here. The price: 928.00 euros. If you can do without BEYOND STEEL, you can buy one of the sister models with ceramic bezel.

The Davosa Ternos Ceramic GMT with the iconic Pepsi bezel polarizes the watch community with its design. You almost forget how high the quality level is that you wear on your wrist here. Behind the caliber called DAV3032 is, as so often, a powerful automatic movement from Sellita. The case and the red-blue ceramic bezel are impressive. As the only GMT diver in this 18 best dive watches 2022/23 compilation, the Pepsi evergreen is just the right choice for those who are looking for an iconic design and excellent quality, but don’t want to slide right into the luxury segment. It is not for nothing that this timepiece is one of the most popular models of the Swiss brand. In terms of price, this Ternos is priced at 1,458.00 euros.

14. TITONI Seascoper 300 83300 S-BE-706

Best of Dive Watches VANDAAG Tiefsee Automatic
Photo © 2022 by WATCHDAVID® David Drilling – All rights reserved

It is the “small” Seascoper and only recently on the market. However, TITONI’s new introduction does not have to hide behind the professional series Seascoper 600. The new series does without special gimmicks. However, one notices very little of this in everyday use. Those who can do without the advantages of the flagship can look forward to a classic diver’s watch. Highlights are not in short supply here either. The automatic caliber SW200-1 from Sellita installed inside is a certified chronometer. When it comes to wearing comfort, the little sister even has the edge. Thanks to revised horns, the case now nestles more gently against the wrist. The reference 83300 S-BE-706 that I tested costs 1,615.00 euros. With a different bracelet, you can enter the Seascoper world at a much lower price.

Still, there are those watch enthusiasts for whom a Seascoper 300 just isn’t enough. TITONI has long had a solution for them: the Seascoper 600, and if you want to step out of the line: the 600 CarbonTech. The current top model has not been on the market long and is available in three exciting color variants. Nevertheless, the black of the case dominates. TITONI has used a whole lot of carbon here. But this high-performance athlete is not only designed for performance when it comes to the material. The in-house manufacture caliber T10 is a true workhorse and certified chronometer. Thanks to a helium valve, the watch is even interesting for professional divers. And last but not least, there’s the unbeatable maximum diving depth of up to 600 meters. What more could you want? For their underwater all-rounder, the Swiss brand calls between 2,910.00 and 3,000.00 euros.

16. RALF TECH THE BEAST Manufacture “First Edition Black”

RALF TECH proves with THE BEAST that despite its international, monstrous-sounding name, it is possible to build a thoroughly French diver’s watch. Once you let the beast off the leash, it is breathtaking in every way. RALF TECH claims to have achieved certified water resistance to 3,000 meters with its black diver – In cooperation with the submarine manufacturer, it was even tested to 4,000m. In the list of the 18 best dive watches 2022/23, THE BEAST is thus enthroned at the top. The limited edition of 77 pieces is powered by the noble manufacture caliber RTM001, which is manufactured for RALF TECH by Pequignet. The French automatic caliber offers a power reserve of 77 hours! This is the next best mark. No wonder, but also in terms of price THE BEAST Manufacture “First Edition Black” is lonely top. The super diver costs 7,000.00 euros.

17. Casio G-SHOCK Frogman GW-8230B-9AER

In the 90s, the Frogman was an institution. You had to wear it to be part of the gang. Unfortunately, not many models have survived the last 30 years. So it’s all the nicer that G-SHOCK is reissuing the iconic watch with the asymmetrical bracelet for its anniversary. The black GW-8230B-9AER with gold accents is the spitting image of the original. However, underneath the retro cover mantle is a modern watch equipped with Casio’s most important features. The movement is powered by solar cells under the dial. The plastic case of the Frogman has also given way to environmentally friendly bioplastic. Conclusion: the best 90s revival for fans of the early days, without looking like an unimaginative copy of the original! Casio has done everything right. The price: 599.00 euros.

18. Le Forban Sécurité Mer La Malouine

Le Forban Sécurité Mer La Malouine

Among all the Swiss diving watches, we sometimes forget that the neighbors from France build equally high-quality timepieces. This is especially true of the long-established Le Forban Sécurité Mer, which was only awakened from its slumber in 2019 by Jean Sebastien Coste. I was able to be convinced of the enthusiasm of the (new) founder as recently as this summer, when I was able to meet him for a coffee at the legendary Hotel Negresco on the Côte d’Azur. The Malouine, one of his first projects, combines tradition with functionality and French charm. In addition, it is enticingly inexpensive – the entry costs just 490.00 euros. Whether in black or blue, the unisex wristwatch is an elegant, distinguished companion for any situation.
